No século XIII, um religioso em prece, indagava a Jesus se não seria digno de padecer da agonia do Cristo em sua crucifixão. São Francisco de Assis, então, inaugura a Era dos estigmas de Nosso Senhor. Certamente, não era seu intuito fazer apologia à dor. Tinha o frade católico uma finalidade muito mais elevada. Pretendia dar testemunho de sua fé para que seus irmãos em humanidade pudessem ser salvos de suas posturas viciosas e cruéis.
Hoje, não se quer de nós que roguemos por dor e agonia para contribuirmos com a paz e a felicidade de nossos irmãos. O Mestre Jesus recomendou que amássemos uns aos outros. O que se quer de nós é a exemplificação do serviço ao próximo, do perdão das ofensas, do atendimento à voz da consciência. O que Eles querem é que sejamos felizes, ao promover a felicidade na vida de outras pessoas.
Se não seguimos esta recomendação, devemos nos preparar para o pior, porque a indiferença aos chamados de Deus, constitui uma verdadeira rogativa por desgraças sucessivas em nossas vidas, a fim de que possamos, finalmente, despertar para o nosso inexorável crescimento.
