Em instantes depois surge o ensejo da resposta: um cruel soldado romano toma da cuia de um velho prisioneiro e derrama no chão parte do já tão escasso caldo que constituía a alimentação daqueles homens, dizendo que a porção que restara era o que merecia o pobre idoso pelo pouco que ali trabalhava. Então, o nobre ancião, sem dizer uma única palavra, recolhe parte do alimento de seu discípulo, completando sua própria cuia, e leva-a até o velho prisioneiro. Depois disso, com um olhar forte e penetrante, mostrando a ascendência moral de seu espírito naquele lugar, promove tocante transformação no semblante de todos. Soldados baixam a cabeça, prisioneiros suspendem o riso perverso.
O discípulo tinha então a sua resposta. João, o evangelista, o único apóstolo que ladeava a mãe do CRISTO JESUS no momento ápice da crucifixão, representava naquela fétida prisão, a presença da LUZ DIVINA, amparando e consolando, distribuindo a todos o amor abundante em seu coração santo.
